PRACTICE / REHEARSE

PRACTICE TELLING YOUR STORY

Three steps should be taken for students to practice telling their story:
(i) Students verbally tell their story in front of an audience, perhaps one or two students from their class. Students provide feedback to each other.

(ii) In front of the video conferencing unit – get used to their position in front of the camera and seeing themselves on TV. There is no need to dial in to any other school. Involve other students to provide feedback.
  1. Proximity to screen – zoom in to fill the screen.
  2. Use of props if any.
  3. Volume of voice.
  4. Look at the camera, not the screen

(iii) Organise a point-to-point video link up with another school, choose students to tell their stories, audience to provide students with feedback.
  1. Minimise movement in the room
  2. Background ‘noise’
  3. Mute and unmute the microphone as required.

Feedback: Using the “Two Stars and a Wish” format, students give tow items that they really liked and one item to help improve the story. This is important so that students are comfortable with this format so when the final story telling session via video conferencing is held, they can provide feedback to other students form other schools using the same format.
